Lantan covers an area of approximately 70 hectares and is located near Shanziding in the eastern suburb of Chiayi City, about 3 kilometers from the city center. It was originally known as "Red Hair Pond," and it is said that it was a pond excavated by the Dutch over 300 years ago, hence the name "Lantan." It is the main source of self-supply water in the Chiayi region and has a vast area of natural ecological resources. The scenic area has rich natural resources, including various plants and insects, making it a famous tourist attraction in Chiayi. Lantan's "Moonlight over Lantan" is a new tourist highlight recently built in the Chiayi City Backyard - Lantan Scenic Area. It is a work by artist Wang Wen-zhi, consisting of an aluminum plate woven theme structure with hollow design. Under the moonlight, the light and shadow transform, presenting a unique beauty. It resembles a bird's nest built over the pond, echoing the surrounding trees and birds, and is filled with a natural and wild atmosphere. The design theme of "Moonlight over Lantan" represents the beautiful scenery of the full moon, with "Moonlight" symbolizing the ripples on the lake, and "Lantan" implying the leisurely mood of boating on the lake. It conveys the landscape image of Lantan's "moon, water, and boating." The ceramic bottom represents the endless water source of Lantan, extending into a colorful dream. The upper half of the bird's nest resembles a peach, symbolizing Chiayi City's ancient name "Peach City." The tree nest on the side resembles a turkey's tail, reminding people of the local famous dish "turkey rice." Climbing up to the bird's nest made of aluminum plates and looking out, it feels like the literati's description of Deng Tower in the Yueyang Tower, where you can enjoy different scenes and landscapes regardless of the time of day or weather. At night, the lighting changes in four stages, creating a different aesthetic and providing a place for people to enjoy at night.
