The Fuguo Dun settlement is located at the easternmost end of Kinmen Island. After passing through traditional old house settlements, you can reach the edge, where some military fortifications are still preserved. The coastal area here is rocky, with granite bodies forming steep slopes. The elevated position is particularly suitable for setting up watchtowers. To prevent enemy landings, the rocky slopes are lined with agave plants with saw-toothed edges, and broken glass bottles are fixed in place with concrete on the rocks, forming a sharp "blade slope." Fuguo Dun was originally called "Oyster Shell Hill," referring to a high ground made of oyster shells, a peninsula-like rocky coastline, but it does not produce any oysters. Archaeological research found that there are many shell midden sites here, with an age of about 7,000 to 8,000 years ago. This significant discovery was named the "Fuguo Dun Culture." Around Fuguo Dun, there are many rocky outcrops, including the Mu Reef, Jianshan Reef, and Hei Reef, which are located in the sea. To the south of the settlement, there is currently a sloped path leading to the original natural fishing boat docking area. Later, a seawall was built behind it, connecting to the reefs in the sea, and it was expanded into a fishery port. Although there are few fishing boats entering and exiting now, the surrounding sea area remains an excellent fishing ground, attracting many anglers to come here for fishing. Fuguo Dun has a unique red soil layer geological landscape, and the surrounding surface still shows special terrain formed by various geological processes, making it a natural geological classroom. When visiting, take the time to carefully observe the unique features of the rocks under your feet.
