Bishan Mountain, with an altitude of 298 meters, is the highest peak in the Matsu region, yet it is extremely suitable for beginners who wish to climb. The mountain is dotted with numerous fortresses, and the command post at its highest point serves as the defensive core of Beigan. Coordinating mutually with Nangan, it controls the entire Matsu maritime territory, making it one of the heavily fortified military zones in the Matsu archipelago. Although the command post is located on top of the mountain, security remains highly reinforced at the Bishan military camp, but the public is permitted to visit. A scenic viewing platform is set on the roadside below the headquarters in the northern part of Beigan. On clear days, you can gaze down to Hou’ou Village situated at the foot of Dawushan Mountain, the coastal Beigan Airport, the silky and fine Tanghou Beach, the lively Tanghai Street, and nearby islands such as Luoshan, Bangshan, Nameless Island, Qiaotou, Dachiu, and Xiaochiu; during the fog season, the summit, shrouded in dense mist, appears ethereal and dreamlike, as if you were immersed in a fairyland.
