The Ciyou Temple is the oldest temple in Xinzhuang, legend has it that it was founded in the 25th year of Kangxi (1686 AD), and was rebuilt in the 9th year of Yongzheng (1731 AD) and renamed "Ciyou Temple". It is also commonly known as "Xinzhuang Mazu Temple". The temple has undergone several renovations during the Qianlong, Jiaqing, Xianfeng, Tongzhi, Guangxu, Japanese colonial, and post-war periods. In 1985, the Ciyou Temple was listed as a third-level ancient monument in the Taiwan-Fujian region. This temple is also mentioned in the "General History of Taiwan", originally just a small and unassuming temple, but with the development of Xinzhuang, it became a center of faith and was rebuilt into a Tianhou Temple of considerable scale. The main hall of the Ciyou Temple is dedicated to Mazu, with Kalan King on the left and Fude Zhengshen on the right; the rear hall is dedicated to Guanyin Buddha, with Daruma Zushi and Zhusheng Niangniang on either side; the Opening Mountain Hall houses the plaques of past masters and resident monks. Mazu is not only the guardian deity of sailors but also the spiritual reliance of the people of Xinzhuang, so the people of Xinzhuang have an inseparable affection for the Ciyou Temple. The vivid and lively carved dragons, exquisite and delicate phoenixes, flowers, and trees, as well as the story figures and the dragon carvings in the front hall, are extremely valuable ancient monuments, and many cultural relics such as couplets, ancient steles, and woodcarvings from the Qianlong and Jiaqing periods are preserved, with extremely high historical value, worth visiting and appreciating in detail.
