The Kinmen Botanical Garden at the foot of Taiwu Mountain was previously the Taiwu Nursery, specializing in cultivating landscape saplings. Through collaboration between the Kinmen County Government and the Forestry and Nature Conservation Administration, it has taken five years to collect over 200华南 (South China) plant species and native Kinmen plants. Zones within its planing include: "Plant Genetic Resource Cultivation Area," "Stream Ecological Area," "Bunker Display," "Wetland Ecology and Aquatic Plant Display Area," "Viewing Scenic Area," and "Natural Ecological Area." Together with more than thirty bunkers within the garden, it has become a botanical garden integrating natural elements, education, and battlefield features. Visiting the Kinmen Botanical Garden, stroll along the bamboo grove corridor and the mountain-trail corridor, overlook the scenic beauty of Taiwu Mountain, admire the blooming lotus in summer, and there may also be opportunities to spot red-billed blue magpies, green magpies, and eagle owls flitting through the forest, allowing nature to heal weary souls and minds.
Location of the Veteran's Story Museum
The Veteran's Story Museum is housed within the Kinmen Botanical Garden. From the main entrance of the botanical garden, it takes approximately 20 minutes of walking to reach, yet it is an unmissable highlight of Kinmen! The Veteran's Story Museum preserved the original layout of the previous擎天水廠管制室 (Chingtian Water Plant Control Room). Walking inside from its outdoor surroundings into the building, it displays rich military and civilian collections. Focusing on stories centered on people, the museum adds a sense of intimate familiarity, making it a favorite site for those who served in Kinmen to visit repeatedly.
