南投縣魚池鄉水社大山步道
Mount Shuishe Trail has two trailheads. The northern trailhead is next to the bus parking lot of the Youth Activity Center; the stone pier marks the start of the trail. The southern trailhead is inside the Thao communal housing settlement in Dehua; the stone sculpture at the entrance marks the trail’s starting point. The entire route climbs 1,300 m in elevation and is a strenuous hike requiring considerable stamina; from the summit you can overlook Sun Moon Lake and enjoy views of the Central Mountain Range. Because of the large elevation gain, the forest along the trail changes from low-elevation broadleaf forest to mid-elevation mixed coniferous–broadleaf forest, offering rich and varied scenery and abundant bird, insect, and animal life—an excellent path for ecological observation. If time is limited, after reaching the trailhead you can follow a loop trail back down via connected boardwalks to either the southern or northern entrance; this easier option takes only about two hours.
