Nestled along Fudong Highway, Xiaotiantian, lives up to its name by bearing striking similarities in landscape to the Zhongheng Highway's canyonous terrain, allowing its fame to spread effortlessly as a popular sightseeing destination. The approximately 800-meter long erosion valley was carved by the steady flow of Beixi Stream over the years, forming a steep, narrow ravine and revealing the oldest geological strata, the "Dulan Layer," along both sides of the valley in Taiwan. The rock walls contain volcanic breccia deposited by Beixi Stream, creating a rugged, hardened cliff face against the mountain and streamside. The local Ji-lami-Taii Amis people state that they frequently observe animal tracks in the opposite, steep valley — countless Formosan rock macaques, and with a bit of luck, glimpses of the Formosan serow, can be spotted. Travelers passing through should slow down and take a closer look for signs of wildlife. In recent years, Fengnan Village — home to over 60% Amis population — has steadily emerged as a new hub for eco-tourism and rural industries under community-led initiatives. If visiting Xiaotiantian, don't miss a stop at Fengnan Village for a rich and rewarding itinerary!
