After the Kuomintang government came to Taiwan, they continued to be used as staff residence of Zhongli Elementary School. They were declared registered historic buildings in 2015 (Minguo year 104). The entire area consists of three structures: one twin Japanese-style dormitory, one single-story Japanese-style dormitory, and one continuous brick structure. The Japanese-style dormitories of Zhongli Primary School witnessed the enlightenment of modern education in Zhongli, and have architectural technological research value during the Japanese colonial period. The site is conveniently located in Zhongli city center, reflecting the development context of the old town district from the Japanese colonial era to present, with rich historical significance and value. The preserved dormitory complex maintains precious old trees and features an outdoor second-floor observation platform with panoramic views of the area, offering a distinct Japanese black-tiled roof style and Minnan-style red-tiled roofs. The Japanese-style dormitories of Zhongli Elementary School were registered as historic buildings in 2015, completed investigation and restoration planning in 2016, and restoration and reuse projects commenced in July 2017, finishing on schedule in August 2018. Generally, cultural heritage restoration takes 5 years for life cycle, but the Japanese-style dormitories of Zhongli Elementary School took less than 4 years from property reallocation to completion of restoration and operational management. During the entrusted operation to private teams, the Cultural Affairs Bureau also collaborated with Zhongli Primary School administration team, environmental education instructors, and professional exhibition planners to launch new education exhibitions at Zhongli Elementary School and restoration highlights exhibitions. The site integrated local curriculum and environmental education learning programs, realizing parent-child reading, storytelling, and nourishment education experiences. The Japanese-style dormitories of Zhongli Elementary School were officially named "Lucy's Little Forest" through public selection. Positioned as a parent-child education space, the facilities are currently operated by Taoyuan City True, Good, and Beauty Social Welfare Foundation, providing functional spaces for reading, storytelling, lectures, and nutrition education. It has become a comfortable and safe environment for parent-child interaction and multifaceted learning, collecting everyday family memories in Zhongli, old photos, oral histories, and interesting life anecdotes.
