It was built in honor of the chaste widow Lin Shi. Daughter of Lin Guanghui of Zhongzhuang Village in Da’an District, she was given as a child bride to the Yu family because her own family was too poor to raise her. When she was twelve, her husband, Yu Rongzhang, drowned. Her father asked her to return home and remarry, but Lin Chunniang refused to abandon her mother-in-law. To support her, she spun, wove, washed clothes, and did odd jobs for others. Though her earnings were meager, she worked without complaint, often going without food herself, always saving the best dishes for her mother-in-law and making do with thin gruel. Her unwavering filial piety won unanimous praise from the entire village.
