Candy Leaf Sunrise is one of Penghu’s famous eight ancient scenic spots.
On the northwest sand dune slope of Candy Leaf Village lies a grove of yellow hibiscus trees, which are locally called candy leaf, giving the place its name.
This candy leaf forest remains green all year round, blooming with yellow flowers in spring and summer, making it very lush. To the east of Candy Leaf Village faces the sea, where the sky meets the water and the view is exceptionally wide. It is a renowned spot for watching sunrise. Climbing the Sunrise Pavilion gives a high‑angle view that is perfect for observing the sunrise. Especially on clear days, a distant glance eastward across the sea reveals the red sun slowly rising from the horizon. The sky transitions from dark and gray to a gentle orange‑red, and the golden sun lifts from the sea level, instantly painting the entire surface with a bright orange‑gold reflection. The unique eroded terrain along the beach adds to the spectacle: as sunlight reflects off the fractured rocks, it looks as if tiny diamonds float on the water, scattering golden spots. The sea appears as a warrior draped in golden armor, rushing forward on golden waves—a breathtaking sight!
During the sunrise, when the weather is clear and the sky is cloud‑free, the distant Taiwan and the outlines of the Central Mountain Range can be clearly seen.
