Zhuolan is located at the southern end of Miaoli. It has a good natural environment. Therefore, early on it earned the reputation as a town famous for its fruits, such as grapes, yang tao, citrus, and pears, which are sweet and of good quality, making it well-known in Taiwan. However, this town with a population of more than 20,000 people lacked a suitable space for cultural performances. Coupled with the transformation of social structure and the gradual outflow of population, the local culture was faced with a crisis of decline. In the 84th year of the Republic of China, the Council for Cultural Affairs provided a budget to improve local performance facilities. With the cooperation of the town office, the Zhuolan Art and Cultural Center was established in the Hongdao Hall of the National Zhuolan Experimental Senior High School. It has a performance hall that can accommodate 200 spectators and an exhibition hall. Although the art and cultural center is not large, it is fully equipped with performance equipment, providing a stage for local people to perform; in addition, it often invites excellent artists from all over to come, so this two-story art and cultural center often hosts different types of performances and activities, such as dance, drama, photography, music and crafts. It also allows the residents of Zhuolan Township to immerse themselves in the edification of artistic activities.
