Tongxiao Hongmu Art Yard was founded in 1966, originally known as Oriental Woodcarving Art Creation Studio. In 1969, it was renamed Hongmu Art Yard. As an old Tongxiao woodcarving factory, it witnessed the thriving woodcarving industry in Tongxiao in the 1960s and is one of the few woodcarving factories still operating today.
In 1994, Hongmu Art Yard established an art center to introduce traditional Chinese large woodworking and carving techniques. The center showcases woodcarved Buddha statues, root carvings, pierced carvings, and daily woodwork art pieces. Visitors can observe the woodcarving process on-site, participate in DIY carving activities, and explore the local cultural and artistic attractions.
The woodcarving display area features solemn and dignified Buddha statues and numerous daily craft works. The intricate carvings are eye-opening. The factory's working area retains complete production equipment, basic woodworking tools, woodcarving templates, and carving tools, allowing visitors to glimpse the woodcarving process.
If you want to try your hand at woodcarving, there's a DIY area where you can carve pen holders, bookshelves, and Five-Path God of Wealth masks. Hongmu Art Center has transformed a traditional woodcarving factory into a Buddhist art center, a cultural heritage hall.
