The Huwei Cherry Blossom Avenue is located on Provincial Highway 4 in Tamsui. Huwei is the old name for Tamsui. The initiative to plant Yoshino cherry and mountain cherry trees was launched by the Huwei Rotary Club and the Tamsui District Office, increasing the density of cherry blossoms along Highway 4 between Shulinkou and Sankongquan. This has formed a cherry blossom avenue. With the opening of the Danhai Light Rail, visitors can alight at Danjin Denggong Station and walk about 100 meters to reach a 4-kilometer-long cherry-blossom tunnel.
The Cherry Blossom Avenue stretches roughly 4 kilometers. It is not only unique to Tamsui but also the longest cherry-blossom promenade in the world, offering distant views of Mt. Datun. On ordinary days it serves as a hiking route for nearby residents. When the blossoms are in full bloom each spring, the cherry-lined highway looks as if it were carpeted in pink. Along the way, Chinese sweetgum and ancient banyan trees also display vigorous vitality.
