The public art installation entitled "As Happy as a Fish" at the corner of Dunhua North Road and Nangang Road measures 250 cm in length, 60 cm in width, and 180 cm in height. Crafted entirely from marble, it resembles the form of a fish encased in flowing water, with undulating wave patterns layered within its body. The artwork exudes a sense of seamless movement, as if the fish glides freely through water. Deliberate cavities exist in the center where marble recedes, allowing a balance of solidity and space to emphasize the relationship between fish and water, offering viewers endless imagination.
"Happy as a Fish" is the work of artist Lin Tsung-Ching, a Hualien native with a profound passion for stone sculpture. Local Hualien marble, with its natural patterns shaped by centuries of water erosion, has fascinated him - some formations resembling clouds in the sky, other cute little creatures. Such natural artistic expression stirs his soul deeply, inspiring works like "Fish-Like Mountains and Waters" at the Hualien County Government's stone sculpture plaza, "Fish" at the Taitung Xiaoyeliu scenic area, and "As Happy as a Fish" at the Dunhua intersection, all among his masterpieces.
