The Deep Pit Buddha Worships the River King, conveying the protection of river ecosystems in name and practice. The Deep Pit Guanyin Buddhist Temple in Erlun’s Deep Pit is devoted to the worship of Guanyin Bodhisattva. The incense offerings come from the Chongxian Temple on the back of Lunde Water. Every year on the 15th day of the first lunar month (Lantern Festival), residents of Deep Pit perform a rice basket ritual to seek omens for agricultural matters. On the half of the seventh lunar month, the River King worship ceremony is held. Image source: Yunlin County Government / photographer.
