The romantic “La Moonigh” is run by An, whose hometown is Meishan. Living at the foot of Taiwan’s high-mountain tea region, she believes Chiayi can interpret Taiwan’s tea culture from more angles. As central Chiayi has evolved in recent years toward the lifestyle she and her partner Bing-Hsi love, the two launched “La Moonigh.” The lounge-like, modern and romantic space expresses the owners’ aesthetic. An personally creates visually striking desserts; Bing-Hsi’s savory dishes have also won praise. An once saw dumplings on a Taipei café menu, found the idea romantic and approachable, and decided to pair snowflake pot-stickers with high-mountain tea. Later came udon and pasta—both popular. La Moonigh is a “café without coffee,” serving only freshly brewed, unsweetened single-origin teas to showcase their unique character. “Doing what I love, letting more young people discover friendly, flavorful Taiwanese tea, and staying connected to my hometown—how cool is that?” says An.
