The Donna Tribe Stone Plate House is located in Donna Village, Maolin District. Early on, the ancestors of the tribe used locally sourced materials from Wenquan Stream to build homes. They used a dark grey slate that comes in two types - a "mother" slate which weathers over time, and a "male" slate which is darker, heavier, and thicker. The "male" slates are usually reserved for use on rooftops and bedding. The residents of the Donna tribe work together and help each other build these slate houses. Some stone plate houses feature door frames or door posts adorned with the totem of the Hundred Steps Snake which symbolizes the status and position of a chief or noble. The interior of the stone plate house stays warm in winter and cool in summer. A suggested stay is about 30-40 minutes. In addition to appreciating the architectural features of the stone plate house, you can also walk to the nearby Headman's House and Donna Elementary School.
