高雄市茂林區多納部落
The Dona Tribe is located at the end of Route 132 in the Maolin District, which is the deepest part of the district. Dona was previously known as "Tsunzi," which is a transliteration from Japanese. The residents refer to their own settlement as "Kunadavan." The Dona Tribe is composed of several small settlements and is currently the tribe in Maolin District with relatively complete preservation of Rukai traditional culture. Behind the settlement, there are surrounding mountains enclosing a wide and flat plateau. This area is used for planting unique black rice. Every year in July, the tribe holds the Black Rice Festival (Tabesengane) to commemorate the blessings of heaven and pray for a bountiful harvest in the coming year. In November, the tribe also holds the Harvest Festival (Tapakadrawane). The Dona Tribe has another unique culture - millet tied with threads. The millet is tied with red, yellow, and green threads. In the past, young men in the tribe would prepare millet tied with threads and give them to the girls they liked before the festival, to express their admiration. Therefore, the more millet tied with threads at a girl's house, the more popular she is. It is recommended to spend about 1 hour here. Visitors can observe on their own or book a guided tour to visit the slate houses, chief's house, and hunter's head platform in the tribe. When visiting, try to avoid disturbing the daily life of the tribe members.
