Due to the remote location of the Muzha area within the Taipei Basin and inconvenient transportation, the evangelization work could not proceed smoothly. Around the first year of the Guangxu era (AD 1875), Zhang Naihong, a tea farmer from the Nangang area, passed by the area of Xindian, and happened to encounter Dr. Mackay (Pastor Mackay) who was preaching. Among the Bible's Matthew 11:28, it says: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Because Zhang Naihong often carried heavy burdens, this verse deeply attracted him. From then on, he began to believe in God, and every Sunday, he and his wife would go to the Xindian Church for worship. Later, in the fourth year of Guangxu (AD 1878), Zhang Naihong also became an elder of the Xindian Church.
Due to the long distance to the Xindian Church, Zhang Naihong established the "Neihu Church" (a branch of the Xindian Church) in the Dushuitou area of Zhinan Village (near the Zhengda Duxian Bridge) in August of the 17th year of Guangxu (AD 1891). During the Japanese occupation period, in the 30th year of Meiji (AD 1897), Zhang and others (note) purchased the current site on Kaiyuan Street for 30 yuan, and completed the dedication of the church on April 30 of the following year, naming it "Muzha Church."
On April 17, 1954 (the 43rd year of the Republic of China), it was officially upgraded to a congregation. Later, due to internal conflicts, another group of believers established the "Xinxing Church" less than 50 meters away on the same street in 1956 (the 45th year of the Republic of China). Until 1962 (the 51st year of the Republic of China), through the efforts of the Taipei Church, the two churches merged and were renamed "Wenshan Church," which continues to this day. On April 22 of the same year, the new church was rebuilt, which is the current old church. As the number of church members increased, the church could no longer accommodate everyone, so on March 13, 1994 (the 83rd year of the Republic of China), the construction of a new church began. However, it encountered many obstacles, and the dedication ceremony was finally completed on April 12, 1998 (the 87th year of the Republic of China).
Across from the church is the starting point of the old Muzha Street, "Dingdian," which is now at No. 35 Kaiyuan Street. It used to be a must-pass place for merchants, and now it has become regular shops, but the sloping roofs and wooden window frames still vaguely reveal the prosperity of that era.
Note: At that time, there were nine households of church members, including Zhang Naihong, Zhang Jianbo, Zhang Jinlai, Zhang Kun, Zhang Sanqi, Zhang Naiqing, Zhang Bang, Zhang Naimiao, and Zhang Haishui. (See the special edition of the 110th anniversary of the establishment of the Wenshan Church.)
