Jinan Church

2024-04-11
台北市中正區中山南路3號
The Jinan Church is a copy of the "Gothic" style from Britain, with a very strong European church atmosphere, especially in the window section, which features large windows and stone window decorations in various forms, such as the large glass mosaic pointed arch windows on the main door and the double pointed arch windows and triple pointed arch windows on both sides, all of which use stones for the frame decorations. In addition, it also uses stone to create feather-shaped windows with a modern blind effect. Not only does it provide shading and ventilation, but it also has a unique appearance. The main door is decorated with an arch, enhancing the overall visual effect and giving the door a solemn feeling. The Jinan Church currently belongs to the Presbyterian Church. The Presbyterian Church was introduced to Taiwan around May 1865. During the Japanese occupation period, in order to provide a rich spiritual life for the Japanese people who came to Taiwan, the church was built in 1916 with the assistance of the wealthy businessman Li Chunsheng from Taiwan. This church, designed by Japanese architect Ichito Kishida in 1916 (the 5th year of the Taisho era), was a church exclusively for the Japanese during the Japanese occupation. With a history of more than 90 years, it is a city-regulated cultural heritage site. When passing by the Taipei Veterans General Hospital, you must take a look.
