◼️Playful Strategies ◼️Classic Movie Scenes ◼️Youth Entrepreneurship and Creative Base ◼️Holiday Market Located in the Wufeng District, Guangfu New Village is Taiwan's first new town, with a rich nostalgic atmosphere of old military dependents' villages. It's a great spot for wedding photo shoots and has been featured in numerous films. Previously, Guangfu New Village was built to accommodate the dependents of employees from the Provincial Government's Education Department, Health Department, and Printing Factory. The construction funds were provided by US aid, and the then-Deputy Director of the Construction Department, Liu Yong-mei, visited the UK to bring back the latest "Garden City" design concept. The village was designed with a low population density and high ratio of green spaces, combining work and living areas. At its peak, the village had over 400 households, with complete internal public facilities, including schools, parks, and markets. The village had a unique rainwater and sewage diversion system, which holds significant importance in Taiwan's urban architectural history. After the 921 earthquake, residents realized the value of revitalizing idle housing and public spaces. They hoped to transform Guangfu New Village into a community life museum, introducing artists' cultural creativity to break away from its fate as a "provincial government dormitory." However, after the provincial government was streamlined, Guangfu New Village was managed by various central government departments, making it difficult to manage and reuse. Meanwhile, community residents were restricted by laws and regulations from making changes to their living environment, leading to further deterioration. Today, Guangfu New Village has been revitalized and repurposed, giving it a new lease on life. A small settlement of 70 idealistic shop owners has transformed the village into a creative and artistic military dependents' village. You can find various installations, art pieces, and creative shops along the streets and alleys, making Guangfu New Village a place where you can explore and relive the past.
