Riding a bicycle along the Xindian Stream, passing through a lush green landscape surrounded by towering buildings on both sides of the stream, and then proceeding to the Mǎchǎng Marketplace cycling path, you'll arrive at the "Mǎchǎng Marketplace Riverside Park". This park is located on the banks of the Xindian Stream, adjacent to the Youth Park. The park was originally a military base, but after negotiations with the Taipei City Government, it was transformed, along with the nearby Huajiang Swallow Duck Park and Zhongzheng Riverside Park, into a large recreational area for the Wanhua District.
The morning at Mǎchǎng Marketplace exudes a refreshing beauty. The long staircase along the riverbank serves as a perfect observation deck to watch the sunrise, offering a broad view with reflections visible in the stream. On clear days, you can see the sun rising slowly from behind the 101 skyscraper in the distance. Occasionally, sunlight filtering through the clouds casts a golden glow on the Xindian Stream, making it sparkle beautifully.
Inside Mǎchǎng Marketplace Riverside Park stands a hill, with an inscription on a monument in front of it that reads: "In the 1950s, passionate intellectuals who pursued social justice and political reform were arrested, and many were executed by firing squad near this hill during the martial law period. Today, this hill, where the Mǎchǎng Marketplace execution ground once stood, is preserved to commemorate the historical event and to honor the countless souls who sacrificed their lives in Taiwan. It serves as a site for remembrance and reflection for generations to come."
