In Liji Tribe, follow the signs to head southwest into the deep mountains to "Giant Stone Slope." The journey involves traveling along a stream, crossing bridges, and entering mountainous industrial roads, totaling approximately 8 kilometers. Although the road is long, the scenery along the way is beautiful. You can see the back of Xiangshan and the Lóngtou and Xīding areas on Taiwan Highway 18, the Alishan Highway. However, the path is treacherous and stunning. The section of the road leading to Giant Stone Slope and the slope itself possess these characteristics. If you can have local community members familiar with the environment guide you, the risk of tourism can be significantly reduced.
As you go through several turns on the mountain road and arrive at a steep slope upward, you will see a trailhead sign for the Lǐměi Emergency Trail that can lead from Liji to Shanmei. After passing through a mountain cliff and a farm road between bamboo forests, you finally arrive at the parking lot of the Giant Stone Slope Trail.
The best route to experience and observe the entire Giant Stone Slope is to travel from the industrial road at the entrance of the parking lot to the top of Giant Stone Slope, then descend along the trail beside it.
Crossing streams and walking through bamboo forests, the warning calls of unknown animals start, and it indeed feels like you have arrived in a seldom-visited secret place. The end of this short trail is the obviously downward-sloping Giant Stone Slope.
As you ascend using the rope handholds, you can soon reach the top of the trail and catch a glimpse of the appearance of Giant Stone Slope. The erosion grooves, fissures, and tiny streams flowing over or hidden in the massive rock also provide a terrain and geological landscape that geographers and related enthusiasts love to explore.
Descending from the top of Giant Stone Slope along the adjacent trail, after the 2006 Typhoon Habaob induced heavy rain washed out, not only this 700-meter-long exposed rock face was revealed to the world. Under the bridge in the middle of the trail, you can see a pothole.
At the end of the trail, the viewing pavilion allows you to enjoy the beautiful scenery while also appreciating the cool breeze. You can also overlook the beautiful scenery of Dányà Valley.
