Youth Ridge Trail

2025-06-24
886-5-2593900
Reopened on 2015/03/15. The trail is about 2.5km long. It was originally a trail for the exchange of goods between the residents of Ruili and Taihe. The two entrances are located near Yuantan Eco-Park and beside Shili Elementary School on County Road 166. The two must-see attractions on the trail are Yanzi Cliff and Bat Cave. The Yanzi Cliff has a rock wall about 40m wide. The wall has been eroded by wind to form horizontal stripes, with neatly arranged small holes. During spring and summer, swallows fly with mud in their mouths, back and forth under the waterfall to moisten the mud and build nests on the cliff wall, showing elegant postures. When walking on the trail under the cliff during the rainy season, the water flows down from the cliff, like walking in a water curtain cave. The other highlight is the Bat Cave. The rock wall of Bat Cave is an extension of the upper layer of Yanzi Cliff, stretching over 200m. The rock is layered sandstone and shale, forming honeycomb-like holes on the surface. The largest hole is about 50cm wide and 60cm deep, which was the former dwelling place of bats, hence the name "Bat Cave". After passing through the Bat Cave, the trail leads to the Good Han Slope. The trail has an elevation difference of 250m. Although the trail is not too difficult, there are many steep sections, making it a trail that tests one's perseverance and endurance. The trail is about 2.5km long with two entrances: 1. Ruili Farm (former Ruili Villa): At 72.2K of County Road 166, turn into the industrial road for about 200m to reach the entrance. 2. Shili Elementary School: At 78.8K of County Road 166, the entrance is beside the bus stop. This route is farther from Yanzi Cliff and steeper. Both entrances start with a downhill slope followed by an uphill slope. If entering from Ruili Farm and exiting from Shili Elementary School, there is a section of stairs with an average slope of 60 degrees and over 1700 steps, which is a real challenge to leg strength. A one-way hike takes about 2 hours. If you don't hike the entire trail, you can go from Ruili Farm to Bat Cave and back, which takes about 1.5 hours.
