Longmenkou Restaurant is located in Nantang, Miaoli. The exterior of the restaurant is spacious with convenient parking, a large courtyard, and a pavilion, making one's entire mood cheerful upon arrival.
The restaurant specializes in Hakka cuisine, operated by several skilled moms with exquisite cooking skills. Together, they have dedicated over three decades to making the restaurant's dishes abundant and distinctive. While daily visitors to Nantang are limited, the moms are never idle, tending to vegetables in the fields and foraging wild greens as early as dawn—creating the simplest yet delicious mountain vegetables served at the restaurant.
Each mom has specific roles. The moms in charge of stir-frying can craft authentic Hakka-style stir-fries like Pineapple-stir-fried Wood Ear with true Hakka flavor; those focused on stewing prepare Hakka Braised Bamboo Shoots using local bamboo shoots, each bite bursting with fresh and sweet flavor. Recently, the moms have also begun selling traditional fire-roasted herb tea, sharing this simple and delicious taste handed down through generations with guests visiting the restaurant.
Must-try recommended dishes include Pumpkin Rice, where rice and pumpkin are stewed together, infusing the sweetness of pumpkin into the white rice, yielding a texture similar to risotto, allowing diners to savor both pumpkin and rice sweetness simultaneously; Peanut Tofu is remarkably unique, offering a cheese-like texture, with mild peanut aroma paired with salty Hakka dried mushroom and meat sauce, creating an unparalleled flavor. Red Yeast Spare Ribs are marinated and cooked with homemade red yeast, infused with aromatic red yeast fragrance, without overwhelming seasoning, offering a subtly savory and fragrant taste perfect for accompanying rice.
