Spanning the Nanshi River, the Wulai Lansheng Bridge connects Wulai Old Street with Hot Spring Street, serving as Wulai’s most vital traffic node. Damaged by typhoon floods, the bridge was fully renovated in 2019 to higher flood-resistance standards and a fresh design, becoming Wulai’s new landmark. After savoring distinctive delicacies on the Tayloresque old street, walk to its far end and you’ll reach Lansheng Bridge. Its structure uses diamond-shaped steel beams to evoke the weaving culture of the Atayal people. Cross the bridge to reach the trolley stop; ride the narrow-gauge line once used for hauling timber all the way to Wulai Waterfall and the cable-car station. Flanking the bridge are transparent viewing platforms; while admiring the broad valley, look down through the glass to feel the rush of the Nanshi River nine meters below. When daylight gives way to night, the bridge’s light-and-water-mist show becomes Wulai’s most brilliant ceremony, guiding residents and travelers amid the river valley encircled by mountains.
