Yuanling Shopping Street - Shoe Street

2017-07-05
台北市中正區沅陵街23號
Walking near the Yuanling Street near Taipei Station, you can see a large black shoe installation art. This street is called the "Shoe Street."
The area surrounded by Zhonghua Road, Zhongxiao West Road, Zhongshan South Road, and Aiguo West Road was the old Taipei City during the Qing Dynasty, and has always been the center of politics, economy, and culture in Taiwan. Although the city walls have long disappeared, people still call this area "Chengzhong District." Yuanling Store Street is located in the "inner city," and throughout history, it has been known for its flourishing cultural and historical resources.
Many of the shops here are long-established stores that run their business with integrity. As Taiwan's economy developed, Chengzhong Market and Yuanling Store Street became gathering places for clothing and shoe stores, with Yuanling Store Street particularly famous for its shoe shops.

The shoes on Yuanling Store Street are all masterfully hand-sewn by experienced craftsmen. Many older generations would bring their broken shoes here for repairs. With the advancement of society and the rise of department stores, Yuanling Store Street lost many customers, but due to its emphasis on features and high quality, the commercial area remains lively and active.
