The weir is located at Linwei Pass in the middle reaches of the Zhuoshui River in Jiji Township, with eighteen floodgates. The river’s annual surface-water runoff is nearly 5 billion cubic meters; broad alluvial plains flank both banks, spanning Nantou, Changhua, and Yunlin counties—one of the island’s prime agricultural regions. The government is actively preparing the Jiji Joint Diversion Project to upgrade existing irrigation intakes along the Zhuoshui, stabilize water supply, reduce coastal groundwater pumping and artificial recharge, slow land subsidence, and meet industrial-zone demand. One north-south connecting canal will be built on each bank, together with four sediment-flushing gates and one fishway. The Jiji Weir Management Center opened in 2002, offering visitors an introduction to water-resource ecology; the building’s observation deck affords views of the Zhuoshui River and the dam.
