"Fu Hang Soy Milk" was an illegal stall set up next to Huashan Market in 1958. In 1995, it officially moved into the market. The owner, Hsu Jen-tsung, came from Funing County, Jiangsu. He also lived in Hangzhou South Road, Taipei, so he named the shop "Fu Hang." Now, his eldest son, Hsu Liyao, has inherited the craft, continuing to make the traditional thick sesame cake.
In October 2009, after the renovation of Huashan Market, Fu Hang reopened with a bright and new look, and business became even better than before. Due to its popularity, in recent years, even tourists have come to visit. Among them, many foreigners use gestures to order dishes in English, Japanese, and Korean. It is a common sight for people to carry large bags of soy milk, fried dough sticks, and other foods to go.
Every day before 5 a.m., there is already a long queue at Fu Hang Soy Milk. Its famous signature dishes include thick sesame cakes, salty soy milk, and also caramel sweet cakes and radish cake, which often sell out. The outer layer of the sesame cake is crispy with a slight chewiness, and it has a strong sesame aroma, which is loved by Hong Kong people and Japanese customers. The salty soy milk contains scallions, pickled mustard, shrimp, fried dough sticks, and chili oil, with a rich and fragrant taste. The top layer has a soft texture similar to tofu pudding or tamagoyaki, making it unforgettable for those who have tasted it. It is precisely this simple and genuine taste of the common people that has made Fu Hang fragrant for 50 years, becoming the most authentic and real flavor close to people's daily lives.
