Taiwan is an agricultural country, and agriculture is its foundation - a research garden for agricultural products! The main farm of the Agricultural Experiment Branch has an area of 40.86 hectares, with a fruit orchard covering 22 hectares. The fruit tree variety garden currently preserves 49 families of species, approximately 800 varieties (strains), and also conserves several rare fruit trees. It serves multiple functions including agricultural research, ecological education, and recreational sightseeing.
The Agricultural Experiment Branch is divided into three departments: Agronomy, Horticulture, and Plant Protection.
‧ Agronomy Department - primarily focuses on research and improvement of rice, sweet potatoes, and agricultural machinery.
‧ Horticulture Department - its research scope includes conservation and cultivation experiments of tropical and subtropical fruit trees and flowers.
‧ Plant Protection Department - mainly researches crop disease and pest control, as well as the development and utilization of beneficial microorganisms.

The Chiayi Agricultural Experiment Branch was established in 1918 during the Japanese colonial period, originally as the Chiayi Agricultural Experiment Station of the Taiwan Governor-General's Office Central Research Institute. After World War II, the administrative system underwent several changes, and in July 1999, it was affiliated with the Council of Agriculture.
The hill on the left side of Chiayi Park has been the site of the agricultural experiment station since its establishment in 1918, cultivating tropical agricultural crops, horticultural crops, and a wide variety of exotic flowers and plants.
