Qianlaiye General Store was built in 1952 as a traditional old building with slanted tiles and a flat roof. Initially, it served as a welfare society for the salt workers of the Taiwan Salt Corporation, providing daily necessities and recreational activities. However, it ceased operations when the Beimen Salt Field stopped salt production. In 2003, French-trained architect Lin Yajin led a group of middle-aged and elderly unemployed individuals participating in a diverse employment program to renovate the store. Through this makeover, they transformed the store into a unique and fascinating destination, giving it new significance. The exterior walls were renovated using discarded tiles, seashells, and oyster shells from the local area. A golden ingot sign hangs in front of the store, symbolizing prosperity and wealth. In 2005, the popular idol drama "The Prince Turns into a Frog" filmed a scene at this location, setting Qianlaiye as the heroine's home. After the drama aired, it attracted many tourists to take photos. Today, Qianlaiye sells a variety of toys and nostalgic snacks, evoking childhood memories for numerous travelers.
