Sanxia Dyeing Workshop

2017-07-04
Formerly known as Sanjiaoling Street, Minquan Street in Sanxia was the center of the textile industry during its peak period. Almost every household participated in the textile work, and each shop also had its own traditional family formula and characteristics. The products offered were diverse and of good quality, which attracted a large number of out-of-town merchants to purchase in bulk. Now, Minquan Street in Sanxia still retains many buildings from that era. The exterior walls are engraved with the word "Dyeing Workshop," forming a very interesting and historically rich scenery. Since the popularity of Western suits and kimono during the Japanese colonial period, the art of indigo dyeing gradually declined and has been dormant for several decades. To prevent the disappearance of the indigo dyeing culture, the Sanjiaoling Cultural Promotion Association has established the Sanxia Dyeing Workshop to focus on preserving and promoting the indigo dyeing culture. The Sanxia Dyeing Workshop currently offers services including indigo dyeing classes, DIY indigo dyeing experiences, and indigo dyeing products. It also has an online store for purchasing products and booking experience activities. The Sanxia Dyeing Workshop offers different DIY indigo dyeing experience packages for different groups. The general experience time is 1 to 2 hours, including an introduction to Sanxia indigo dyeing, dyeing techniques, and scarf dyeing.
