Yuan-Dao Guanyin Temple is located in Tamsui, New Taipei City. The scenery is serene and secluded, like a paradise on earth. From here you can gaze afar at the sunset over the Taiwan Strait and the breathtaking vista where sea and sky merge, or take in the full view of the majestic Mount Datun and Mount Qixing. Being here refreshes both body and mind.
Built in the style of Tang-dynasty architecture, Yuan-Dao Guanyin Temple exudes a natural, antique elegance amid the graceful forested valley. Outdoors, lush greenery abounds, with waterfalls, small bridges over flowing streams, and footpaths among the landscaping. It is also home to the world’s first garden of 33 Guanyin stone statues.
In recent years the temple has been constructing the “Tamsui • Thousand-Armed Thousand-Eyed Avalokiteśvara Statue,” which in 2019 earned a Guinness World Record as the “largest steel sculpture,” becoming a new landmark for Taiwan.
Public-transport directions: take the Tamsui MRT line to “Hongshulin Station,” transfer to the Danhai Light Rail and alight at “Xinshi 1st Rd Station.” Walk north about 50 m to the temple’s “Bodhi Diligence Stop” and board the free shuttle bus; the ride takes roughly 10 minutes to reach Yuan-Dao Guanyin Temple.
