新北市萬里區港東路6至8號間巷弄
Located in Yeliu Village, Wanli District, New Taipei City, the Yeliu Village Hiking Trail is a community trail that faces Yeliu Fishing Harbor. Enter the alley next to No. 3, Gangdong Road, in front of the Farmers’ Association, go all the way to the end, and you’ll see the steps. The trail is about 1 km long, shaded by verdant trees, wide, gentle, and easy to walk. Along the way there are two viewing platforms overlooking Yeliu Fishing Harbor, Yeliu Cape’s Yeliu Geopark, and the seamless blue of the Pacific Ocean. The trail ends at the Ren-ai Home; from Ren-ai Home square you can gaze over Emerald Bay. On the return trip you can visit the century-old Mashin House and the Coral-stone House. Trail length: about 0.97 km; walking time: about 35 minutes; family-friendly; near Yeliu Geopark. Wanli District’s coastline stretches 11 km, making it the township with the most fishing ports in Taiwan. Yeliu Village alone has two: Dong-ao Fishing Port on the east side of the cape and Yeliu Fishing Port on the west. Regarding Wanli’s place-name history: in the 17th century the Spanish occupied northern Taiwan and called the Han settlement here “Parian,” later rendered as “Wanli” (Banli). The origin of “Yeliu” is debated; it is said to derive from the Spanish “Punto Diablos” (“Devil’s Cape”). The consonants D and b in “Diablos” disappeared, evolving into “Yeliu” (Ia-liu).
