It was jointly funded by Taiwanese believers and Japanese people. Its official name is "The Taiwan Branch of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji School." Construction began in 1904 and was completed in 1912. It is an architectural complex full of Japanese style. The Hiben'enji Temple Taiwan Branch is a branch of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji School in Japan. Most of the main buildings adopt an eclectic style that was common in Japanese Buddhism during the 18th and 19th centuries. The main hall, the sacred hall, the kitchen, and the bell tower are all in the eclectic style, while the roji (garden corridors) are in the traditional Japanese residential style. The Shukushin Hall, on the other hand, represents the spirit of a new era, employing a brick structure combined with Western wooden trusses, while maintaining a traditional Japanese roof style. The old-fashioned bell tower, nostalgic Shukushin Hall, the Japanese-style roji, and the modest historical buildings of the main hall are scattered in the lush green park, forming beautiful pictures in the eyes of visitors.
