The shop’s signature douhua is as tender and refreshing as pudding. The red beans and peanuts are made from Taiwanese beans, so large that their texture is unmistakable. The owner says that the secret lies in cooking them until they’re fully tender while preserving each bean’s integrity so that it doesn’t break apart—an art refined over many years.
Old Wang’s douhua comes in pearl, peanut, and red‑bean flavors. In the summer they add mung beans, and in the winter they add ginger soup. The owner emphasizes that the ginger soup is simmered with yellow ginger, and it can be made as mild, medium, or hot upon customer request, which is very considerate.
