Yuchang Ecological Farm is an environmental-education base planned by the Zang-sheng Environmental Planning Team. The name “Yuchang” comes from the extensive planting of pomelos; it is a homophone of “you-yuan” (another fate) and “you-yuan” (round again), hinting at the completeness of time and space. Originally a chicken farm, the land was taken over by the second generation, who planted white pomelos and betel-nut palms. Now the third generation, together with a group of young people who have returned to their hometown, are transforming traditional agriculture into leisure industry: keeping some pomelo trees, cultivating diverse plants and creating wildlife habitats. The farm embodies not only the affection of three generations but also a microcosm of Taiwan’s agricultural evolution. The site frequently hosts hands-on activities, letting children explore, experience and understand nature, and ultimately learn to protect the ecosystem.
