The Sun Moon Lake 环潭 route is approximately 30 kilometers long, offering stunning views of the lake and surrounding landscape, making it a favorite among tourists. The route was voted one of the top 10 most beautiful bike paths in the world by CNN's travel website, CNNGO. Starting from the Xiangshan Visitor Center, take a clockwise ride around the lake, passing through the popular and crowded Shuishe area, which has a flat terrain. As you approach Jiulongkou and head towards Wenwu Temple, the terrain becomes steeper, especially on the section from Yunpin Hot Spring Hotel to Wenwu Temple, which can be quite challenging. There is a small platform in front of Wenwu Temple (near the Jingsheng Building) where you can take a short break and enjoy the breathtaking view of the lake, momentarily forgetting your fatigue. After a brief rest, continue on, experiencing a series of ups and downs, with the wind blowing gently. As you pass by the Sun Moon Lake Cable Car Station, look up to see the cable cars crisscrossing the sky, and during winter, admire the beautiful pink cherry blossoms. At noon, you can stop at the Yidashao Commercial Area to try some authentic Thao cuisine or stock up on supplies before continuing on your journey. When you reach Cien Pagoda and Xuanzang Temple, take in the stunning view of the lake from a higher elevation. After passing by the Xuan Guang Temple parking lot's big bend slope, ride downhill to Toushe, being cautious and attentive to your riding safety. Finally, return to Xiangshan Visitor Center from Toushe, which has a steep slope and is considered a high-intensity route. As some sections of the bike path are not yet completed, it's recommended to ride along the環潭 highway and be mindful of traffic safety.
