Taiwan's academies were established one after another during the Qing dynasty and belonged to local educational venues. The "Beitou First Academy" Mingzhi Academy, located on the second section of Mingzheng Road near the intersection with Xinsheng Road, was donated by Gongsheng Hu Zhaoyu from Yongding, Tingzhou, Fujian. At that time, it was quite large in scale. Later, due to the government's relocation of the academy to Hsinchu, it was renamed Xinjuanshanjiao Yizheng. Mingzhi Academy is the first academy in northern Taiwan, established 70 years earlier than Wenhai Academy (Xuehai Academy) in Mengxia. The original Mingzhi Academy was quite large, with a five-open间 entrance and a total of 12 side rooms on both sides. After years of renovation, the academy is now surrounded by civilian houses, leaving only the main hall and two side rooms. The main hall currently enshrines the "Ziyang Zhu Fuzi Shrine" and the "Gongsheng Hu Zhaoyu Shrine", while the walls on both sides display introductions to the academy's history and architectural restoration process. Mingzhi Academy occupies an extremely important position in the cultural and educational history of northern Taiwan. Starting from Mingzhi Academy, following the stone-paved path, you can reach the Yixuekeng Natural Ecology Park and appreciate the beautiful natural scenery.
