■Starting today, the Daxi Wood Arts Ecology Museum (the old city tour route) will change to gather at the History Museum (No. 23, Puji Road, Daxi District). Daxi is the earliest developed area in Taoyuan. Through the Dadan Creek and sailboat navigation along the Tamsui River, it facilitated thriving trade with the mainland, giving rise to many renowned merchants and commercial houses. During the Taishō period of the Japanese colonial era, the Baroque architectural style became popular. Along old streets such as He Ping Road and Zhongshan Road, these commercial houses merged Baroque opulence with traditional Fujian decorative motifs, including Greek pediments, Roman columns, and Chinese symbols of auspiciousness like fish and bats, forming a unique style exclusive to Daxi. He Ping Old Street, which was developed later, is in better preservation condition, with numerous specialty shops standing along the streets, creating a lively atmosphere. Around Daxi Old Street are famous attractions like the Daxi Bridge, the Li Tengfang Old House, ancient temples, the Wude Hall Cultural Heritage Site, and the Daxi Wood Arts Ecology Museum. Naturally, one should also savor the traditional nostalgic Taiwanese snacks and experience traditional Taiwanese children’s toys on the old street. Notably, dishes such as Daxi tofu, Moon Cake, Peanut Candy, Soybean Flower Jelly, Bows Gao (steamed rice cake), and Rice Balls are must-try authentic Taiwanese delights! This is definitely a must-visit destination when coming to Taoyuan to experience the genuine tastes of Taiwan.
