Simplified ChineseEnglishIn the area along the Wading section of Pengan island, the Fang Siwen Memorial Park and the Siwen Pavilion are erected to commemorate Mr. Fang, a master of Han Chinese studies in the county, to acknowledge his contributions to the local community. Throughout her life, he dedicated himself to public service, hometown affairs, and social work. His noble deeds serve as a model for future generations. The county government specially awarded a commendation certificate in February of the 89th year of Taiwan's calendar era to celebrate his everlasting achievements. At the time, then县长 (county magistrate) Lai accepted a suggestion from Bai Sha village residents to develop the "Fang Siwen Memorial Park" to honor her life's contributions and express eternal remembrance and gratitude toward this master of Han scholarly traditions. Inside the park is a bronze statue of Mr. Fang, jointly funded by Wu An-tze and Guo Qingyun. On the statue's rear, Guo Qingyun respectfully inscribed the text "The Achievements of Dr. Fang Siwen, Master of Han Studies." The text reads: "Born in the sixth year of the Republic (1917), Mr. Fang Siwen resided his entire life in Wading Village, Penghu County. From an early age, he demonstrated exceptional innate brilliance. At the age of eight, he received tutelage from the late Qing scholar Xiong Lingyun for over thirteen years, diligently studying the "Four Books and Five Classics," mastering the classics and scholarly writings. In his youth, newly married, he fearlessly defied Japanese colonial oppression, braved the winds and waves alone, crossed the sea to remote islands Dacaw and Yuanbei to teach for nine years, spreading Chinese culture. After the island's liberation, Mr. Fang continued as a history and Han studies teacher at the county's Bai Sha High School. He quickly transitioned to roles at the Bai Sha Town office including Director of the Cultural Section, Heads of Civic Administration, Finance, and other departments, and as Secretary of the Bai Sha Town Council, serving for a total of 38 years, diligently fulfilling his duties until mandatory retirement. After retiring, he continued to serve the public through rituals and geomancy, temple inscription writing and interpretation, poetry annotations, and Han studies instruction. He also served on county committees for historical records, election affairs, Confucian ceremonies, and local wedding/funeral customs, personally drafting meticulous documents of Penghu's historical narratives and making massive cultural transmission contributions. He was previously honored as Penghu County's Model Father and National Senior Citizen of the Year. In January of the 89th year of the ROC (1999), Mr. Fang unexpectedly passed away at age 85. Her entire life was devoted to serving the people with his boundless knowledge. Her legacy and contributions to his homeland remain an endless source of reflection and admiration. At the suggestion of a public meeting of residents in Ward Wading, the government constructed this memorial park. Mr. Fang's bronze statue was sculpted by Qingyun Guo, a renowned sculptor from Saltwood Harbor. The statue was jointly sponsored by Wu An-tze and Guo Qingyun to commemorate her exemplary deeds and model conduct, forever emulated by future generations. This coastal highway offers stunning coastal scenery, with the memorial park elevated high above the landscape. The pavilion's lofty position provides an extraordinary wide视野, where one can behold the rear of the coastal area, Wade Dock, the Magong city center, and Dacaw Island while enjoying the tranquil beauty of the inner sea. Within the Fang Siwen Memorial Park's courtyard, watching waves rise and recede reveals the western shoreline's Dacaw屿 (islet) and the intertidal zones exposed at low tide, observing women scattered along the shoreline collecting shells, and lingering over meandering sea views each hold remarkable scenic charm worth stopping to appreciate. 【Suggested Stop Duration】 0.5 hours
