In the area along the Wading section of Penghu Island, the Fang Siwen Memorial Park and the Siwen Pavilion are built as a tribute to Master Fang Siwen, a renowned Han Chinese scholar from the county, recognizing his contributions to the local community. Throughout his life, he devoted himself to public service, hometown affairs, and social work. His noble deeds stand as an enduring model for future generations. In February of the 89th year of Taiwan's calendar era, the county government specially awarded a commendation certificate to celebrate his everlasting achievements. At that time, former county magistrate Lai accepted a proposal by residents of Bai Sha Village to establish the "Fang Siwen Memorial Park" to honor his life's contributions and express eternal remembrance and gratitude for this master of Han scholarly traditions. Inside the park stands a bronze statue of Mr. Fang, jointly funded by Wu An-tze and Guo Qingyun. The back of the statue is respectfully inscribed by Guo Qingyun with the words, "Dr. Fang Siwen, Master of Han Studies." The inscription reads: "Born in the sixth year of the Republic (1917), Mr. Fang Siwen spent his entire life in Wading Village, Penghu County. From an early age, he demonstrated exceptional innate brilliance. At the age of eight, he studied under the late Qing scholar Xiong Lingyun for over thirteen years, diligently mastering the 'Four Books and Five Classics' and becoming proficient in classical texts and scholarly writings. In his youth, having newly married, he fearlessly defied Japanese colonial oppression, braved the raging seas alone, and crossed to the remote islands of Dacaw and Yuanbei for nine years to teach, spreading Chinese culture. After the island's liberation, Mr. Fang continued as a history and Han studies teacher at Bai Sha High School in the county. He swiftly transitioned to roles at the Bai Sha Town Office, including Director of the Cultural Section and Heads of Civic Administration, Finance, and other departments, and served as Secretary of the Bai Sha Town Council for a total of 38 years, fulfilling his duties diligently until mandatory retirement. After retiring, he continued serving the public through rituals and geomancy, temple script composition and interpretation, poetry annotations, and Han studies instruction. He also served on county committees for historical records, electoral affairs, Confucian ceremonies, and local wedding/funeral customs, personally drafting meticulous historical narratives of Penghu and making extraordinary cultural contributions. He was previously honored as Penghu County's Model Father and National Senior Citizen of the Year. In January of the 89th year of the ROC (1999), Mr. Fang unexpectedly passed away at age 85. Her entire life was devoted to serving the people through his vast knowledge. His legacy and contributions to his hometown remain an endless source of reverence and admiration. At the suggestion of a public meeting of Wading Ward residents, the government constructed this memorial park. Mr. Fang's bronze statue was sculpted by Qingyun Guo, a renowned artist from Saltwood Harbor, and jointly sponsored by Wu An-tze and Guo Qingyun to commemorate her exemplary deeds and model conduct, forever emulated by future generations. This coastal highway offers breathtaking coastal scenery, with the memorial park raised high atop the landscape. The pavilion's elevated position provides an extraordinary panoramic view, where one can observe the rear of the coastal area, Wade Dock, Magong City center, and Dacaw Island while enjoying the serene beauty of the inner sea. Within the courtyard of the Fang Siwen Memorial Park, watching the waves rise and recede reveals the western shoreline's Dacaw Islet and the intertidal zones exposed at low tide. Observing women scattered along the shoreline collecting shells and lingering over meandering sea views each holds remarkable scenic charm worth pausing to appreciate. 【Recommended Visit Time】 0.5 hours
