The Jiaoban Mountain Inn is located along the Beihan Highway, integrating history, culture, and natural ecology. The site comprises distinctive areas such as the Strategic Tunnel, Jiaoban Mountain Inn, Plum Garden, and the Camphor Storage Office. In late 2024, following structural restoration, landscape improvements, and upgrades to recreational facilities, modern technology and art exhibitions were introduced. The first exhibition phase, titled “Traveling to Jiaoban Mountain,” aims to reinterpret the history and natural beauty of Jiaoban Mountain through the perspectives of travelers and artists who have visited it. The Strategic Tunnel, originally constructed in 1963 for wartime command and emergency shelter for leadership, extends 100 meters in length and 20 meters underground. Its walls feature interactive 3D murals that recreate military scenes and historical slogans from that era, making it a popular educational and entertaining attraction. Following an emergency walkway leads visitors to the Jiaoban Mountain Inn, which showcases exhibits centered on “Chiang Kai-shek’s Travelogue.” Particular emphasis is placed on the visits of Chiang Kai-shek and his wife Dr. Soong Mei-ling to the region as tourists, as well as Madame Chiang Kai-shek’s process of learning and practicing painting. The displays include historical photographs, such as those of the Chiang Kai-shek couple in the bamboo pavilion at Jiaoban Mountain and their stroll across the suspension bridge. Travel and aesthetics are interconnected, allowing visitors a deeper understanding of the couple from new perspectives, now enhanced with new media interactive art. Exiting the inn and proceeding to the Memorial Pavilion, visitors may gaze over the Danshui River and Nakette Mountain. The wide vista serves as a site for Chiang Kai-shek’s homesickness for his native town of Xikou, Zhejiang Province. The Sculpture Park blends artistic installations with natural environments and features tree species such as pines, cypress, plums, and bamboo. During plum blossom season, the area attracts tourists for plum blossom viewing, tea tasting, and outdoor activities to experience the lively atmosphere. The only remaining Japanese-style camphor storage building in Taiwan, the Camphor Storage Office served historically as a central hub for the collection and transportation of camphor. Internal displays showcase the history and production process of the camphor industry. The north entrance square retains the traces of the original building cluster and combines landscape paving, a tea house, and recreational platforms to expand the depth of cultural experience. The nearby ecological pools are surrounded by wooden walkways and planted with diverse aquatic plants, including the iris and lotus. Landscapes also include the golden azalea and seven-spiral magnolia, creating a habitat beloved by tree frogs and fireflies. To promote nighttime tourism, outdoor artworks within the park have been highlighted, creating a tranquil atmosphere where nature and light intertwine. The park will extend its opening hours to 8 p.m. from now on, becoming a new destination for people to stroll and admire artistic sculptures under the stars.
