Xinnan Yi’er Cultural & Creative Firm
Zhongshan Road, formerly known as Xinnan Street, was where merchants set up their firms and warehouses during the heyday of Daxi river transport, and it was also the upscale residential district of the time. In 1999 the Council for Cultural Affairs and the local government redeveloped it into an arts-and-culture street. The building at No. 12 Zhongshan Road once served as the residence of Dr. Fu Zu-jian, one of Daxi’s three most senior physicians. Though, after nearly a century, little of the usable structure or interior fabric remains, innovative thinking and management have given the old house a new face, allowing this three-section, three-courtyard complex to reveal its former splendor and, through this platform, encouraging more Daxi partners to engage with local culture in fresh ways.
