Shuilian is located on the coastline of Shoufeng Township, Hualien County. Embraced by emerald hills, it features a vast river valley basin where Shuilian Creek winds through. Following the small path along the roadside leads down to Shuilian Wetlands and the Niushan Coast, a secluded coastal paradise. Beyond recreational activities like swimming and beach leisure, this area offers rich ecological resources. The coastal plant forest serves as an ideal gateway to observing the ecological landscape of the eastern coast. Hiking, leisurely walks, birdwatching, and butterfly watching are all excellent choices. Lying on the expansive coastal grassland, taking in the blue sky, white clouds, and sunshine, time seems to pause. The origin of Huting's name lies in the southern beach of Niushan. The Ami tribe calls it "Huting (Huting)," a term meaning a pasture with vast grassland. Niushan boasts unique geography, most notably the terraced-like mountain slopes on its southern shore, once used as bison grazing grounds. Every spring, the entire hills are blanketed with blossoming Taiwan lilies, a prime site for wild lily growth. Niushan's rich plant ecosystems serve as a microcosm of the eastern coastline's flora. Since 1990 (Republic of China Year 79), the area has been included within the scope of Taiwan's coastal conservation plans as a designated nature reserve. In winter, the Niushan Beach of Shuilian sings a melody—a seasonal transformation. During spring and summer, the sand is smooth and warm underfoot, offering a relaxed retreat reminiscent of a secluded coastal paradise. With the arrival of the winter monsoon, strong winds sculpt the beach into colorful pebbles of varied sizes, arranged in an ordered pattern. Waves drive these pebbles inland only to see them cascade back down with the ebbing tide, producing a symphony of resonating sounds. Locals affectionately refer to this as the "singing beach" of winter in Niushan. Stay with the shoreline—stargazing at Shuilian. Simple accommodations in cabin-style lodges are available for those who prefer not to camp. Lying beneath the starlit sky, one might lose themselves in the glimmer of the stars and the rhythm of the waves, unwittingly leaving their heart where land meets sea.
