Simplified Chinese Japanese English Korean Buckets Island is located in the southwest of Penghu Main Island. It is the largest and most impressive basalt column island in the Penghu archipelago, and was named for its resemblance to a bucket or plate. The steep sea cliffs formed by basalt columns turn light brown due to oxidation, and the tops weather into rounded structures, earning the nickname “Penghu Yellow Stone Park.” On the sea‑erosion platform along the southwest coast, concentric circular holes formed by basalt vents and central uplifted rock blocks resemble a blooming lotus, so it is called “Lotus Platform.” This landscape disappears and reappears with the tidal currents, a unique geomorphic feature of Penghu.
