Located within the scenic wonders of Taroko National Park, Shibao Elementary is not only the sole elementary school situated within a national park but also the first institutionalized forest experimental elementary school. Originally a branch of Fushi Elementary School in Xilin Township, Shibao now operates as a residential institution under a unique "residential school system," making it the only elementary school in Hualien County to fully integrate boarding, learning, and living for both students and teachers into a close-knit educational family. The campus design features a courtyard-style layout, with its primary building distinctively shaped as an architecturally unique hexagonal green structure, which was selected by the Architectural Magazine as the Annual Best Building Award. The waterside stream at the school's entrance separates pedestrian and vehicle pathways, providing a safer and more natural learning environment for students within an open-air setting.
