Dreams Take Root at Zhongxing Village
Built in 1950 at the foot of Bagua Mountain, Zhongxing Village was originally home to soldiers and their families from General Gao Fangxian’s Qingdao Security Brigade. Having traveled all the way from Qingdao, Shandong, they put down roots here, weathered the flames of war, and passed on an indomitable national spirit.
To preserve this illustrious history, the Changhua County Government has championed cultural-heritage efforts since 2009, researching the village’s past. In 2010 it was registered as a Changhua County historic building—the only intact military dependents’ village in the county. Selected by the Ministry of National Defense in 2012 as a military village preservation site, it was reclassified as a settlement architectural complex in 2021. After the Phase 1 plaza and environmental-improvement project was completed in October 2022, the Changhua County Cultural Affairs Bureau launched a “public-benefit-for-rent” revitalization program, providing six units in four buildings as startup spaces for young entrepreneurs. Operations officially began in January 2023, blending local landscapes and industries to greet residents and visitors alike in a brand-new guise. Phase 2 full-site restoration is slated for completion in 2025, ensuring the village’s history continues to thrive and the flavor of Changhua lives on.
