Beishan Old Building was jointly built by the three brothers Li Jinyu, Li Yanya, and Li Tianzhu from Guningtou. The three brothers went to Manila, the Philippines, to engage in coconut trade and achieved success. They returned to their hometown Beishan in 1928 to build a two-story house for their mother to live in. Later, in 1937, they constructed a two-story Western-style building. It was built by master builders from Nanan in the mainland and local craftsmen from Guningtou, including Li Yantou. Because the building is located on high ground with a good view, it can overlook all corners of the village, making it strategically valuable. During the Guningtou Battle, it was occupied by the Communist forces and became a command post. It experienced intense gunfire and bombardment, undoubtedly proving that Kinmen was a frontline battlefield. Today, you can still see the collapsed roof and numerous bullet holes, yet the building remains distinctive. The interior has been renovated into a backpacker hostel, offering travelers a comfortable resting environment. The exterior still retains the cruelty of past battles, and upon visiting the site, you can almost still hear the sound of cannon fire whizzing past your ears.
