桃園市復興區成福路600號
The Tungyenshan National Forest Recreation Area is located in the Fuxing District of Taoyuan City and belongs to the terminal range of the Snow Mountain. When viewed from A-muping in Taoyuan, the mountain's shape resembles a reclining maiden with large eyes gazing eastward, which has earned the name "Tungyenshan" widespread recognition. The entire recreation area spans nearly 100 hectares, featuring a stunning sight of over 300 hectares covered in Cryptomeria trees (Taiwan red cypress). Within the area, "Tungyenshan" itself is the highest point, standing at an elevation of 1,212 meters. From the summit, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges and far-off landscapes of Taoyuan, Sanxia, and the Tamsui River. It is also an excellent spot for admiring the night view of Taoyuan. The "Cryptomeria forest" and the "sea of clouds" are the major attractions of Tungyenshan. Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,000 meters, much of the forest was originally a man-made planting area in the early times, making the dense evergreen forests a critical landscape in the park, covering hundreds of hectares with thick tree canopies and lush greenery. Thanks to the well-preserved forest coverage, the area hosts rich ecosystems of amphibians, making it an ideal location for family activities and ecological education. The rugged terrain often gathers fog in the afternoons, enveloping the hills and woods, creating the most beautiful moments at Tungyenshan. If lucky enough, one might witness a rainbow resting on the maiden's eye. The Tungyenshan recreation area features 16 kilometers of forest trails, including the "self-guided trail" for climbing the main peak of Tungyenshan (1,212 meters), the "intellectual trail" showcasing forest culture and timber harvesting history, the "family-themed trail" (parent and child peaks) located at the end of the forest road, and the "fossil trail" revealing life trace fossils dating back about 30 million years. Each trail showcases distinct ecological landscapes and forest scenery, allowing visitors to connect with the wonders of Tungyenshan from different perspectives. The most rewarding way to experience Tungyenshan is by following the self-guided tour trails. The total length, including side trails, amounts to about 4 kilometers. A direct route to the triangular point of the main peak of Tungyenshan spans approximately 1.6 kilometers. Visitors may follow a guide leaflet provided by the Forest Bureau or navigate independently using directional signs. The trails feature various explanatory signs with图文并茂 (图文并茂 means "图文并茂" is a Chinese term meaning "both texts and pictures; both words and images") information. Starting to ascend the wooden staircase trail takes about 60 minutes to reach the top, where rich flora and fauna provide an immersive experience, combining natural beauty with the soothing effects of phytoncides. Reaching the highest point at an elevation of 1,212 meters brings a new perspective; from the observation platform, the surrounding mountain ranges offer a relaxing, inspiring view, and on clear days, even the Taipei Basin could be glimpsed in the distance. Occasionally, drifting clouds intermingle with green hills at this vantage point to create a breathtaking tableau. The intellectual trail located behind the dining area boasts dense forest coverage with small streams flowing occasionally. Exhibitions of forestry culture and related machinery equipment are highlights that allow visitors to simultaneously embrace the invigorating effects of nature and the熏陶 (熏陶 means "infusion, influence, or熏陶") of historical culture.
